Contaz 35 thruster failure
A subsea construction vessel experienced a failure with the inlet pinion in the upper gear box of the Contaz 35 azimuth thruster unit.
The underwater gear housing was suspected to suffer from consequential damages and Prosub was requested to assess the possible damages at the vendor’s workshop. The pinion suffered from TIFF, Tooth Internal Fatigue Fracture, on some of the teeth. The crown wheels and pinion was subsequently scrapped.
